Laya

Point of primal receptivity. The seed or potential of all actuality. Hence, laya centre, meaning a centre or seed that can be used by a Creative Deity to project a Body of manifestation. Technically an unpotentised point of potential power waiting for its cycle of activity, when it will manifest its potential. For example, the seed that grows into a flower. Laya centres can be seen as chakras that have not yet been awakened, as part of the planetary, systemic or cosmic nadi system. This incorporates any sacred spot or site on the Earth that has not yet reached its full potential, or any place that is to become a place of importance in the future evolution of the human race.

Left hand path

This phrase refers to the path of the black magician and Sorcerer. It refers to the following of the way of the left hand (Ida) nadi stream, of the Mother or procreative forces, which sustains the sum of the form nature and its activities. This is the path of the development of the intellect per se, of invoking the separative, hateful, and selfish aspects of the concrete mind to the exclusion of all considerations of Love. It is the path that leads into the substance of deepest matter, great apparent power in the physical domain, much karmic woe, and eventual imprisonment in the eighth sphere.
The dark brother abides continually in the activities of the lower four, shunning the properties of the spiritual triad, except the concrete subdivision of atma, which they utilise to govern the entire world of sensation and materialism, the planes of glamour and illusion. The white brother also of necessity utilises Ida Nadi pranas, but this is through the impetus of the Love principle, and not divorced from it as does his dark correspondence. See also black magic

Lemuria

(Sometimes called Mu, the Motherland.) The name given to the continent that preceded the Atlantean era, and upon which the Third Root Race humanity came into being (Individualised) and evolved. They were the early animal-men, the “mindless”, the Giants mentioned in the book of Genesis, who were the bearers of the spark of mind bequeathed by the Lords of Flame. (The “Sons of God” who “saw the daughters of men….and they took them wives of all which they choose” Genesis 6:2-5.) This is elaborated in The Secret Doctrine by H.P. Blavatsky. What is now Australia and all of the Islands of Oceania, in the Pacific Ocean, were once part of this continent.

Lemurians

The inhabitants of Lemuria.

Lethe

The river of forgetfulness in the Greek mythology.

Lha

(Meaning “shining”.) A Tibetan term, generally referring to the inhabitants (Devas) of the higher spheres, as well as to enlightened beings. It can also refer to earth bound spirits, as well as mind-created forces, such as Dhyani Buddhas.

The white brotherhood. See Hierarchy.

Lila

Divine play, sport of the Gods, specifically of Shiva in his creative and destructive dance.

Linga

(Or Lingam). Male generative organ. Symbol of Shiva, thus of the Creative potential of the first Ray energies.

Linga Sharira

A term for the astral body, or more technically, the etheric double, the vital body as a whole.

Lipikas

(Or the Lipika Lords.) A Sanskrit term meaning “scribes”, or Recorders. Thus they are the agents of karma. But they are more than that, being the geometricians of the Universe, circumscribing the mandalic patternings that become the blueprint of Space through which the Word of the Logos can Sound out and attract the Builders that Build the substance of the forms. There are said to be four (associated with the Throne of God) and seven (associated with the seven planes) of these Lipika Lords.

Logos

(A Greek term meaning embodied Word.) God or Deity in the most direct sense. The Lord of Love-Wisdom who projects the Word of Creation for an entire sphere of evolution that He embodies. (See John 1:1-3.) He is the Son/Sun in incarnation the Christ aspect that embodies a world or Solar sphere for the purpose of salvaging the life aspect therefrom. Those who evolve along the second Ray line become the Logoi or Lords of the seven spheres or Planetary systems, or their Solar or Cosmic equivalents. Technically the second person of the Divine trinity.

Loka

A region of activity or circumscribed space governed by any specific characteristic. The various planes of perception, or even spheres, of thought activity.

Lord of Civilisation

See Mahachohan.

Lords of Flame

See Kumara.

Lotus

(Flower) The Sanskrit term is Padma. This plant grows in the mud (the symbol of our base desires) of swamps (the desire nature) to produce an immaculate flower (the aspirational nature, the love principle) that faces the radiance of the (spiritual) Sun, to give beneficence to all. Thus it is an apt symbol for the path of love. The shape of the petals of this flower are also similar to the patternings that energy takes in the etheric form around the laya centres that are the points of power for the inpouring of multidimensional energies, and which become the chakras or psychic centres. The lotus is thus a flower most revered by the ancients, wherever the Wisdom Religion was manifest.

Lower four

The Quaternary, the forces and energies that derive from below the diaphragm, from the solar plexus, sacral, base of the spine and splenic centres. It also refers to the sum of the personality nature, possessing a concrete mind, emotional, etheric and dense physical bodies. This can also be viewed on a Planetary, Solar or Cosmic scale as well.

Lucifer

Taken by the Christians to be equated with Satan, through erroneous juxtaposition of Biblical passages. But it is not so. Lucifer is the “son of the morning” (the early time of day or of the evolutionary period) that had “fallen from heaven” (Isaiah 14:12.) “Fallen” really means “into generation”, that is, fallen into material existence and the vicissitudes of a physical body. Lucifer actually symbolises the human group-Soul that “fell” from the spiritual realms (the Presence of God) into dense incarnation (which is a form of hell) and therefore into that which is limited or conditioned by karma as well as by time and its cycles. It also has a direct reference to esoteric and exoteric qualities of the planet Venus.

Lunar ancestors

In the Sanskrit terminology, the Pitris, or “Fathers”, the builders of the form of man, the threefold personality nature. They are the Devic forces that are associated with the sum of the planes of perception ruled by the Solar Plexus centre. Indeed they are the builders of the forms of all types of solar plexus and desire-mind interactions and thoughtforms. They are thus exceedingly important in relation to man’s evolution. Hence they are responsible for the formation of the waters and the movement of the (psychic) tides, especially that related to the lunar cycles, thus psychicism, astralism.
The term can also refer to the Moon chain humanity, and to certain karma associated with the failure of that planetary Scheme. See also Pitris.
